I am sharing an easy breakfast recipe today which can be made with leftover bread. This recipe is quick and brimming with lovely flavors. Without further ado, let us get to the recipe.
Ingredients
6-7 bread slices (white/brown/multi-grain/wholewheat)
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp mustard (rai)
1 medium onion, chopped (pyaaz)
1 medium tomato, chopped
1 tbsp peanuts (singdana)
1/4 cup boiled peas (ubale hue matar)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp red chili powder (lal tikha powder)
1 tsp pav bhaji masala (optional)
1/2 tsp sugar
salt as per taste
1 tbsp lemon juice
coriander leaves for garnish
Method
Start by cutting the bread into small pieces. You can make pieces randomly by hand too.
Boil peas and keep them aside.
In a kadhai/pan, heat oil. When the oil gets hot add butter to it. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onion and saute till the onion gets slightly brown.
Add peanuts and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add chopped tomatoes, salt, and sugar. Mix well.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and pav bhaji masala. Mix well. Cover the kadhai/pan and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Remove the cover and add the bread pieces. Mix well so that all the pieces of bread get coated with the masala properly.
Add the boiled peas and mix well.
On medium flame, cook for 4-5 minutes stirring occasionally
Turn off the heat. Add lemon juice and mix well.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
MASALA BREAD IS READY TO SERVE !!
SERVE HOT.
Notes -
Adding butter enhances the taste of this dish. If you are a vegan you can use vegan butter or just use 2 tbsp of oil instead.
We have to use more oil/butter than usual as the bread slices soak up that fat.
The amount of red chili powder can be adjusted as per your liking.
